Artist Warren Keating hopes his work helps you slow down and discover poetry in the everyday moment. This painting depicts the motion of a Parisian woman carrying a book as she walks briskly down St. Germain. The inspiration for this series came from a vacation to Paris where Keating shot video of passersby from his hotel balcony in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Keating’s paintings start with documentation. He records subjects on video from birds-eye views, digitize the film on my computer and, finally, paint them on canvas in an active style he describes as Pixel Impressionism. It merges artistic elements of the 20th Century with 21st Century technology. Keating credits Futurism as well as Chuck Close and Gerhard Richter as influences in my figuration paintings.
