We are pleased to announce that artist Ilse Bolle’s sculptures “Minds Apart V” and “Minds Apart VII” have been accepted into the Art of ReUse exhibition at Richard Levy Gallery, Albuquerque, from January 9 – February 14, curateed by Jakia Fuller.

Minds Apart VIII 17 x 17 x 43.2" Handmade paper, encaustic, silk, found objects

Ilse’s work embodies the themes of reuse and sustainability through the use of found objects and handmade paper crafted from recycled pulp. The materials she incorporates—such as handmade paper, encaustic, silk, and objects collected from local land owned by friends—carry personal and environmental significance, creating a tactile connection to the natural world and the stories embedded in these reused elements.

Her sculptures evoke a sense of calm and mystery, inviting viewers to reflect on the subtle transformations that occur through creative reuse and reinvention. Ilse employs techniques involving handmade paper and encaustic methods, adding texture and depth that forge an intimate dialogue between material and form.

These pieces align with Ilse’s broader artistic practice, which deeply engages her tactile sensibilities. The creative process is often guided by preliminary sketches she makes before bringing each sculpture to life, emphasizing the alchemy and transformation inherent in working with materials that carry histories of decay and renewal.

Ilse plans to continue exploring themes of reuse and sustainability in future projects, focusing on the process of alchemy and transformation—the unexpected beauty that arises from decay and regeneration.
